Knowing how to swim is a lifelong skill benefiting one’s overall health and well-being.  With Y swimming classes, children learn to be safe around the water and gain confidence that comes with learning and perfecting a skill. Y preschool and youth swimming classes boast low teacher to child ratios and plenty of individual attention. Y adult classes help tone, shape and increase strength and endurance. In all classes, skills are taught in an enjoyable, supportive environment by aquatic professionals.

The Y has been teaching and encouraging swimmers of all ages, abilities and interests – for more than 100 years! But one thing never changes: we’re still dedicated to helping people grow in skill and confidence for a lifetime of fitness and water safety. We focus on the key elements of aquatics: stroke development, personal safety, sports and games plus personal growth and development.

Log Rolling
Log Rolling is a sport which will help improve balance, agility, strength and concentration all while having fun! Local and regional competitions may be available. Rollers develop skills and friendships while practicing and competing.
Learn to Swim
The Y Youth Aquatics Program is divided into several different levels and is oriented toward student-centered learning. It is designed to insure the student's safety, provide for regular, progressive success, and make the learning process more enjoyable.
Master Northerns Adult Swim Club
Weekly swim workouts for open water, triathlon, and fitness swimmers. All levels are welcome. Join us for fun and camaraderie in the pool while we work on technique and fitness.
Open Swim and Lap Swim
During scheduled Open and Lap Swim times, the pool is available for members who wish to participate in swim activities, as well as relax and enjoy our pool. It is a great time to workout independently or have family time to play together in the pool.
Northerns Swim Team
The Cook County YMCA Northerns Swim Team is for school-aged youth. At practice, kids are separated into ability levels and work on strokes and endurance. Each swimmer will have many opportunities to swim in meets with other youth of their same age.
